USARIEM: A Quest for Knowledge Scriptwriter
VIDEO ~ This 20 minute video tells the story of USARIEM, the U.S.
Army Research Institute of Environmental Medicine. Its products can be found on
the sweeping vistas of a blistering hot desert battlefield ...in the chilling swamps of a
Ranger training center ... along a rugged mountain range dividing two hostile neighbors
... and in every diverse climate and region around the globe where the U.S. Warfighter now
guards the peace and may someday have to do battle. To tell this story, we spotlight
USARIEM=s greatest asset C the men and women who plan and conduct the
research, and the volunteers who test their theories in the lab and in the field. A
professional off-screen narrator frames the story and provides the connecting details.

AIDS INSIDE THE BODY Scriptwriter
VIDEO ~ This medical video uses a combination
high-end 2-D and 3-D video animation to visualize the workings of the body's immune system
and show how HIV attacks and destroys key cells. Designed as part of an inter-active
computer program for healthcare workers.
MEDPORT Writer/Director
VIDEO ~ Desert Storm taught us a great
deal. It tested our air-land battle doctrine and vindicated our investments in research
and development of advanced technologies. It showed that the U.S. Warfighter was ready and
capable to fight the war. Unfortunately, the same was not true for battlefield medical
care provider. Although there was some individual and unit readiness, there was a general
lack of medical system integration. In some cases whole elements of units were absent or
older equipment configurations were incompatible with the air-land battle. This video
illustrates a instrumented devices that link battlefield medical personnel to the
Warfighter during live field training. These devices record realistic wounding data
allowing medical personnel to impact the success of failure of the training exercise.
MERLIN Writer/Director
VIDEO ~ This informational video showcases the Medical
Readiness Learning Initiative. MERLIN is an advanced system using affordable,
off-the-shelf computer components combined with a customized, user-friendly interface to
create, transfer, and access casualty data. MERLIN addresses both the training and
operational needs of Reserve and Guard medical units. It gives them the ability to train
both medical and non-medical personnel on tasks they dont normally do in peacetime,
such as mass-casualty situations or management of chemical warfare injuries. In their
deployment phase, MERLIN provides a platform that can be taken to the field and used to
enter patient information from the scene and then passed through the echelons of medical
care.
FIELD CASUALTY TREATMENT Scriptwriter
CD-ROM ~ Designed to train Army medics,
this interactive simulator presents the student with realistic field casualties. Each
casualty wave includes an initial scenario video clip and a second look
video clip in which the camera acts as the student's point of view. After learning of
patient findings through dialogue between the casualty and other unit members, the student
must perform a hasty field triage, provide life-sustaining first aid to control bleeding,
maintain respiration and cardiac function, and supervise evacuation based on severity of injuries.
DMSSC INFORMATION SYSTEMS Scriptwriter
VIDEO ~ This 3 part program is designed to inform the Defense
Department medical community about the new computer architecture which will dramatically
improve health and hospital services within DoD. The programs, aimed at high level
decision-makers, mid-level managers, and support personnel, use 3-D computer animation
coupled with live action case histories, to explain the need for a systems approach to
information networking.

the U.S. Army Medical Research Institute of Infectious Disease. It
highlights USAMRIID's unique world-wide efforts in battling highly infectious agents and
showcases the sophisticated safety features the Institute employs to treat individuals who
have contracted rare viruses.

the U.S. Army Medical Department, these 5 spots use footage of operations, facilities, and

Initially produced for an exhibit at the American College of Surgeons, the spots have
aired at numerous professional medical meetings across the U.S.
